Overview
The EcoGuardian NF™ Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) by HANLA IMS Co., Ltd. is designed to comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations (33 CFR Part 151, 46 CFR Part 162). This system prevents the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens via ballast water, using a combination of electrochlorination during ballasting and neutralization during de-ballasting.
1. System Overview (p.9-15)
- Treatment Capacity: 130m³/h ~ 6,000m³/h
- Ballasting Process:
- Filters large organisms and particles.
- Applies hypochlorous acid (TRO) via ElectroChlorination Unit (ECU).
- De-ballasting Process:
- Neutralizes residual TRO with sodium thiosulfate using the Neutralization Unit (NEU).
- By-pass Mode:
- Available for emergency conditions. Manual operation with automatic alarms.
- A.P.Tk Process:
- After Peak Tank operations follow the same protocols as main ballast water tanks but with modified alarm/shutdown thresholds (5%/3%).
- Power Consumption:
- Ranges based on model and treatment capacity (see system manual, p.14).
- Minimum/Maximum Flow Rates:
- Vary by model (e.g., EGNF0130: 39 m³/h - 143 m³/h).
- Specific values detailed in system manual (p.15).
2. System Components (p.16-20)
- ECU (ElectroChlorination Unit):
Generates hypochlorous acid via side-stream electrolysis during ballasting. - NEU (Neutralization Unit):
Injects sodium thiosulfate during de-ballasting to neutralize TRO levels. - TSU (TRO Sensor Unit):
Monitors and controls TRO concentration during both ballasting and de-ballasting operations. - Control System & Power Distribution:
Includes Main Control Panel (MCP) and Human Machine Interface (HMI). Allows monitoring, control, and alarm management.
3. Operation (p.21-36)
- Modes:
- Ballast
- De-ballast
- By-pass (ballast/de-ballast)
- Maintenance
- Control:
- Performed via HMI or optional Remote Control Panel (RCP).
- User login levels ensure secure operation (Operator and Engineer modes).
- Procedures:
- Step-by-step instructions for each operation mode (p.22-36).
- Screens:
- System overview, status monitoring, valve control, flow rates, TRO concentrations, and alarms.
4. Alarms & Troubleshooting (p.37-44)
- Alarm Types:
- Warning and Shutdown
- Common Alarms:
- Flow rate deviations
- Hydrogen gas detection (pipe/atmosphere)
- Conductivity and temperature issues
- Neutralizer tank levels
- Troubleshooting:
- Detailed diagnostic and corrective actions are provided for each alarm scenario (p.40-44).
5. Maintenance (p.45-46)
- Safety Precautions:
- Observe all standard safety protocols including isolation, draining systems, and use of PPE.
- Inspection Schedule:
- Regular checks are mandatory for filters, sensors, pumps, and valves to ensure optimal operation.
