Overview
This document provides guidelines for the PL40M-U-I Pressure Transmitter, including safety precautions, installation procedures, operating conditions, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The PL40M-U-I is an intrinsically safe pressure transmitter designed for use in hazardous areas, ensuring accurate pressure and level measurements in industrial applications.
1. Safety Information (p.4-5)
- Electrical Hazards: Ensure the power supply is isolated before maintenance.
- Intrinsic Safety Compliance: Certified for Ex ia IIC T6...T4 Ga, meeting ATEX & IECEx standards.
- Anti-Static Precautions: Proper handling is required to avoid electrostatic discharge damage.
2. Storage Before Installation (p.6)
- Store in a dry, covered area and keep in original packaging for protection.
- Inspect for physical damage before installation.
3. Description and Application (p.9)
- The PL40M-U-I Pressure Transmitter measures gauge and absolute pressure in liquids and gases.
- Designed for process engineering applications, including tank level monitoring and industrial pressure measurement.
- Available with various process connections, including hygienic and threaded connections.
4. Technical Specifications (p.10-11)
- Measurement Ranges:
- Pressure measurement: 0 to 50 bar
- Burst pressure: up to 120 bar
- Operating Temperature:
- PL40M-U-I: -40°C to +85°C
- Protection Ratings:
- IP67 (dust and water-resistant).
- Output Signal: 4-20mA DC (2-wire system).
5. Mechanical Installation (p.12)
- Mounting Guidelines:
- Secure the transmitter to the wall using M4 bolts.
- Ensure proper cable gland installation for environmental protection.
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Risks:
- Avoid installation in areas where electrostatic charge buildup is possible.
- Use a damp cloth for cleaning to prevent charge accumulation.
6. Electrical Installation (p.13-14)
- Precautions:
- Ensure the power is OFF before making electrical connections.
- Connect transducer and power supply carefully, ensuring correct polarity.
- Intrinsic Safety Requirements:
- Must be used with an intrinsically safe isolation barrier or zener barrier.
- Certified for Zone 0, 1, and 2 applications.
7. Operation & Calibration (p.15)
- Startup Verification:
- 3.5mA output → No signal detected.
- 4-20mA output → Normal pressure reading.
- 21mA output → Overpressure condition.
- Calibration:
- Factory pre-set, but field adjustment may be required.
- Zero and Span calibration can be adjusted using the DIP switch and variable resistance.
8. Maintenance & Troubleshooting (p.16)
- Common Issues & Solutions:
- Indication Error → Adjust Zero/Span settings and check specific gravity.
- Zero Reading → Inspect power supply, isolation valve, and sensor status.
- Maximum Reading → Possible sensor failure—requires replacement.
