Overview
This document provides guidelines for the PL40-O Level Transmitter, including safety instructions, installation procedures, operating conditions, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The PL40-O is a 2-wire, 4-20mA level transmitter designed for hazardous areas, ensuring accurate level measurement in various tank applications.
1. Safety Information (p.4)
- Electrical Hazards: High voltage present; ensure power isolation before maintenance.
- Intrinsic Safety Compliance: Follow ATEX & IECEx guidelines for hazardous areas.
- Anti-Static Precautions: Handle PCBs carefully to avoid electrostatic discharge damage.
2. Storage Before Installation (p.6)
- Store in a dry, covered area to prevent moisture and environmental damage.
- Inspect for physical damage before installation.
3. Description and Application (p.9)
- The PL40-O Level Transmitter consists of a transducer and a transmitter box.
- Designed for tank level measurements, including ballast, fuel oil, fresh water, and chemical products.
- Built to operate in hazardous environments with intrinsic safety certification (Ex ia IIC T6...T1 Ga).
4. Technical Specifications (p.10-12)
- Measurement Ranges: Various pressure levels up to 70 bar.
- Operating Temperature:
- Transducer: -40°C to +125°C
- Transmitter Box: -40°C to +85°C
- Protection Ratings:
- Transducer: IP68 (fully submersible)
- Transmitter Box: IP66/67 (outdoor use)
- Output Signal: 4-20mA DC (2-wire system).
5. Mechanical Installation (p.13-14)
- Mounting options:
- Immersed mounting (ballast tank applications).
- Side flange mounting (transducer fixed or welded).
- Isolation Valve Recommended: Install between tank and transducer for easier maintenance.
6. Electrical Installation (p.15-18)
- Transducer Cable Requirements: Must be free from damage (cracks, burns, crushing).
- Transmitter Box Placement:
- Install outside the tank in a protected area.
- Avoid exposure to shock, chemicals, and excessive moisture.
- Intrinsic Safety Guidelines:
- Use an isolation barrier (KFD0-CS-Ex1.51P/2.51P) in the safety area.
- Certified to ATEX & IECEx standards for explosion-proof applications.
7. Operation & Calibration (p.19)
- Startup Verification:
- 3.5mA output → No signal detected.
- 4-20mA output → Normal level or pressure reading.
- 21mA output → Overpressure alarm.
- Calibration:
- Factory pre-set, no adjustment needed.
- Ensure proper specific gravity setting for accurate readings.
8. Maintenance & Troubleshooting (p.20)
- Common Issues & Solutions:
- Indication Error: Check transducer cleanliness, zero/span settings, and venting pipe.
- Zero Reading: Inspect power supply, isolation valve, and sensor status.
- Maximum Reading: Likely sensor failure—requires replacement.
