1. Overview
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the mechanical seal of the EBP(ECU Booster Pump, Model : CRN 15).
Before proceeding, ensure all safety precautions are followed, and consult the After-Sales (AS) Team if needed.
2. Preparation Before Work
- Turn off all BWTS breakers (MCP, MPP, PSE) at the vessel’s Main Switchboard (MSBD).
- Remove the coupling guards.
- Detach the coupling:
- Remove the four bolts (two on either side).
- Pry the two halves apart after removing the bolts.
3. Disassembly Process
Step 1: Remove the Motor & Shaft Seal
- Remove the four motor bolts and detach the motor from the motor stool.
- Loosen the three set screws to remove the shaft seal:
- Do not fully remove the set screws; just loosen them.
- Pull out the shaft pin.
- Do not fully remove the set screws; just loosen them.
- Remove the strap seal:
- Use a socket or spanner to loosen it.
- Once loosened enough, pull it straight up off the shaft.
- Use a socket or spanner to loosen it.
4. Installing the New Mechanical Seal
- Lubricate the pump shaft with soapy water.
- Insert the new seal:
- Push down on the round piece rather than the hex head.
- Push it as far down as possible, then tighten by hand.
- Push down on the round piece rather than the hex head.
- Tighten the shaft seal to the appropriate torque value.
5. Setting the Shaft Height
- Reinsert the shaft pin:
- Ensure it is positioned at the bottom before tightening the set screws.
- Tighten each set screw lightly at first, then fully tighten in sequence.
- Ensure it is positioned at the bottom before tightening the set screws.
- Use the key (clipped inside the coupling guard):
- Place it under the round part on the shaft seal.
- Lift up slightly and slide the key in to set the height.
6. Reassembly Process
- Reassemble the motor.
- Install the two coupling halves:
- If the motor has a keyway cut, align it properly.
- Keep the gap between the coupling halves as equal as possible.
- If the motor has a keyway cut, align it properly.
- Insert and tighten the bolts:
- Tighten alternately in a diagonal pattern to maintain alignment.
- Torque to the specified value.
- Tighten alternately in a diagonal pattern to maintain alignment.
7. Final Checks & System Start-Up
- Remove the key and place it on the backside of a coupling guard.
- Reassemble the coupling guards.
- Reconnect cables and turn on the BWTS breakers.
- Pre-Operational Check:
- Ensure all related valves are properly aligned before operating the EBP.
- If FM301’s flow rate is not formed, perform air venting:
- Open the EBP air vent plug during Ballasting.
- Release the air until seawater flows out smoothly, then close the vent plug.
- If the strainer is installed before the EBP, open the air vent valve during Ballasting.
Then, close the vent valve once seawater flows smoothly.
- Open the EBP air vent plug during Ballasting.
